CarnyMusic is the solo project of Mike Carnahan, lead singer of the SF western-psych band The Green Door. In a shift from the expansive, mythological themes of the West that embodies The Green Door, CarnyMusic explores the raw, personal, and even solitary human condition as well as its dynamic relationship to an ever-changing world. Most of the time presenting as stripped down and spare with just guitar and vocals, CarnyMusic also collaborates with other musicians. The outcome is a varied mixture of sonic possibilities that stretch across a range of emotions, experiences, and intensities.

The Treacherous French are an eclectic indie rock band hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area. The songs they write are catchy yet complex, while staying true to their indie, blues, country, and alt-rock roots. The lineup consists of a group of four multi-instrumentalists from differing backgrounds ranging from folk rock to punk rock to dance rock to Celtic jazz folk fusion. The standard lineup of rock band instruments is well represented: bass, guitar, drums, vocals, keys - but if you listen closely, you may hear some twists as well: accordion, mandolin, harmonica, glockenspiel, washboard, kalimba - and this blend of styles and instrumentation is what makes The Treacherous French what it is.

Beers Off The Beaten Path ... Progressive Tasting in the Ing-Xcels-Ola

Get “off the beaten path” and enjoy an afternoon of great beer and outstanding food at places you maybe never heard of in this eclectic city that is San Francisco.

What the hell is the “Ing-Xcels-Ola” you ask? It’s our made-up word to direct you to the INGleside, eXCELSsior, and portOLA neighborhoods along the southern edge of the city. We may be a bit off the beaten path, but once you find us, you’ll realize we’re worth the trip, and a lot closer to where you normally grab craft beers than you may have originally thought.

This event is structured as a “Progressive Tasting” but you can start anywhere along the route if you wish. What the hell is a Progressive Tasting you ask? It’s where you enjoy food and craft beer pairings at one location, then “progressively” move along the route to enjoy more food and craft beer pairings at other locations. Our Progressive Tasting event will get you to FIVE locations, and the best part is we’ll shuttle you along the route for FREE!

For our Progressive Tasting, you’ll enjoy food paired with beers by Ferment.Drink.Repeat at FIVE different, unique locations. Starting at 12:30pm at The Ave Bar on Ingleside's Ocean Avenue (www.theavebar.com), you’ll get a beer-infused cocktail crafted with an FDR beer at this watering hole that features craft beers and has been welcoming Ingleside residents for years. From there you’ll make the short walk down to Ocean Ale House (www.oceanalehouse.com) where you’ll pair delicious food with multiple FDR beers at this inviting, craft beer mecca. Starting at 2:30pm, our FREE shuttle will then begin moving folks to the Excelsior to get more outstanding food paired with FDR beer at The Dark Horse Inn (www.darkhorsesf.com), an oasis on Geneva Avenue that has been featuring locally-produced craft beer for the past seven years, as well as the newly opened Witch Doctor’s Lounge (www.witchdoctorslounge.com) on Mission Street. For your last stop, you’ll again take our FREE shuttle to Ferment.Drink.Repeat, the Portola Neighborhood’s first craft brewery (www.fermentdrinkrepeat.com), where you’ll get even more beer, this time paired with a delectable dessert prepared for us by The Dark Horse Inn. FDR will also be prepared to provide tours of the brewery, where all the beers paired for this event were brewed!

Mark your SF Beer Week itinerary for this can’t miss event … check back here often, we’ll post more information as we finalize our food and beer pairing menu. Shake up the routine and get “off the beaten path” … you won’t be disappointed!

Instead they came up with Violet Island. These days Violet Island has four members, Adrian (Vocals/Guitars), Newman (Bass), Felipe (Drums), and Lizzie (Everything Else). Scott is a songwriter, performer, and music therapist.  He recently released his first full-length LP called Little Tiny Things,  a special project because it reunites a very dear group of friends. Shawn Camp and Tom Hudson (both of Silver Scooter) met up with me at the beautiful Idler Recording operated by Tyler Mallory (also ex-Silver Scooter) who recorded and mixed most of the songs. Dave McNair (Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Los Lobos, Willie Nelson, and of course Silver Scooter) mixed a few songs and mastered all the material.

The songs feature guitars, bass, and drums with a heavy splash of vintage keyboards.  Some rock and bounce along while others quietly strum.  The songs range in subject matter from the personal to what it might be like to live with Alzheimer’s Disease, as some of my music therapy clients do.  A deceptively simple keyboard drumbeat opens the album on the title track, but the songs’ lyrics disintegrate into the profound fears haunting memory loss: “What if you no longer can sing? What if your heart only knows darkness?”

Scott is a former member of Silver Scooter, which released three critically acclaimed albums, and dozens of singles and E.P.’s.  Touring extensively and sharing stages with Death Cab For Cutie, Kristen Hersh, Unwound, and Olivia Tremor Control to name just a few, they frequented the SXSW Music Festival as well as CMJ.

Dante was the lead guitarist for the NJ-based band Noah's Arcade and has performed with regional groups The Rearrangement, Some Assembly Required, the Jon Lall Band, Geneva & the Conventions, and the one-night-only blues spectacular known as Fake ID. He was a musician in residence at Winberie’s in the heart of Princeton, NJ, and has been performing solo or with bands at bars, coffeeshops, restaurants, breweries, and weddings for the past 15 years.  He loves nothing more than to entertain song requests, and he may even let you sing one if you know the words and you're bigger than him (which you probably are).

A bunch of like minded cats, all digging deep, all the time. WestSide Jazz Club, from the Westside of SF is full of local boys, living here in town, keeping the jazz pot stirred. Always driving, always vibrant. You hear funk when you'd of thought swing, and never mind all the other infectious grooves, Latin, Second line and what not? Cool party band. Killer Chops. You'll wonder why there aren't more local jazz bands like this ! The bands
always having fun, feeling it. And how about them Vocals? Monk, Shorter, Rollins, Miles, Trane. You know the book. But you've not heard it this way. Not played today like the music was brand spankin' new!

John is an established professional musical performer and plays acoustic shows around the San Francisco area. Hailng from blues + jazz saturated upstate NY city of Rochester,  he was captivated by the intensity and emotion of monumental east and west coast blues, rock and jazz improvisers of the past and more recent modern Jam Band, Groove and Indie Rock acts. John picked up the harmonica at 14, influenced by his harmonica playing Grandfather + Uncle, and by other famous Harmonica greats. He spent hours emulating and playing along with friends and recordings. In 2003 when during a major life changing summer John decided to pack his life into his jeep and trek cross-country and relocated to SF. John now plays acoustic shows around The SF Area with a rotating cast of accompanists that consist of fiddle, hand percussion, mandolin, and bass. Deeply rooted and well-versed in American roots music and early southern blues John + Friends will take you on a musical road trip across the country with feel-good songs of substance and integrity

Join us for a festive evening of Hanukkah, Klezmer, and Christmas music performed by accordion virtuoso Aaron Seeman and friends.

Aaron Seeman's onslaught of solo accordion and vocals has astounded audiences of all shapes and sizes. Maximum Rock 'n Roll, the premier punk magazine, pronounced him "over the top!" for his note-for-note renditions of the entire first Dead Kennedys album, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. His repertoire also includes, but is not limited to, 70's rock, Broadway, klezmer, classical, country, Sousa marches, punk rock, and even a polka or two.

Rather than play hokey accordion versions of these songs, Duckman/Seeman seeks to demonstrate that accordion and vocals alone can evoke the spirit of the song, whether the hard driving rock of AC/DC, the wide vocal range and sonic landscape of Boston, or the supersonic speeds and driving force of Dead Kennedys, or favorite holiday classics.

The Basement Brothers are an acoustic trio of Bob
Rawlins (bass), Arne Hurty (guitar) and Dave Cooper
(mandolin) with roots in the SF Bay Area. Nearly every song
rings with vocal harmonies, often in threes. Their songs span a
century and a half of American songs. They are as likely to play
Devil Makes Three or the Buzzcocks, the Rolling Stones or
Merle Travis as they are to play a 1920’s jazz standard or a
fiddle tune. However, they might just dazzle with a collection of
originals. It all depends on set and setting. Come see the
eclectic stirrings of the Basement Brothers.

Go ARMY! Beat Navy!

Come cheer on the Army West Point Black Knights as they seek to continue their recent domination of the Midshipmen from Navy in this annual game often called "The Greatest Rivalry in College Football."

Rife with pageantry and patriotism, regardless of W-L records, this game is always one of the most competitive of the year. BONUS: this year, both teams are actually pretty good, so the game should be excellent.

Happy Hour prices on beer, and we'll put out some light snack/appetizers, but feel free to bring in other food if you wish.

Go ARMY! Beat Navy!

The Yuletide Repair Kit was launched in 2003 by guitarists Brian and Andrew Saxon, drummer John Ellis, bassist Chris Sheldon and singers Jester Banks and Nat Bigger. The purpose of the Yuletide Repair Kit is to electromagnetically bring forth the joys of the holiday season to the weary, forlorn, and downright dubious populace. Inspired by vintage tremolo, fuzz guitar, and a low-fi aesthetic, the Yuletide Repair Kit recorded all of their songs in a garage in San Francisco. The Yuletide Repair Kit uses old Musicman Amps and Fender guitars exclusively.

Yuletide Repair Kit's album, Holiday Lo-Fi is available for download on itunes and Spotify.
