Our annual "Iron Brewer Competition" challenges homebrewers to brew beers using specifically assigned ingredients or to hit a target of inspiration - think of the "Iron Chef" TV show and you're on track. After two rounds of blind and public judging, we then brew a commercial scale batch with the winning homebrewers to feature during SF Beer Week. This year, we laid down the challenge to 40 homebrewers to create beer versions of mini cupcakes provided by Mission Minis.
For this event, you'll get to taste the inspiration Swiss Almond Coconut cupcake, alongside "Cupcake Reincarnate" - the scaled up version of the winning beer brewed by Terence Tse and Peter Bergstrom. From cupcake inspiration to the glass, you'll get to taste firsthand how the toasty almond and coconut notes of the cupcake shine through in the malty smooth beer. The winning brewers will also be on hand to geek out and talk about their process and decisions for making a beer version of the cupcake so deliciously drinkable.
